Our Team

  • Kaley Mullin is a Chicago-based sociologist and market researcher. Before launching Cool Shiny, Kaley led Youth & Trends Insights for YouTube at Google, where her award-winning research helped to steer the brand through a pandemic, the launch of multiple format innovations like Originals and Shorts, and a pivot to focusing on Generations Z and Alpha. Pre-YouTube, she worked for Disney, where she helped reinvent the traditional family brand ABC Family to Freeform, a brand for bold young women. A sociologist who wrote her masters thesis on women’s roller derby, she’s devoted her career to researching the intersection of youth culture and women’s issues.

  • Megan E. Collins is a Los Angeles-based cultural insights analyst and pop culture expert. Aside from a stint on the corporate side that only Kaley could have enticed her to accept, the proud LA native’s career has mostly been on the vendor side. For over a decade, she’s been providing clients from Fortune 500 companies with the insights they need to navigate cultural shifts. Whether that’s helping a retailer like Target figure out their approach to influencer collaborations, making sure your favorite streamer’s series are connected with their intended audiences, or convincing Google they should harness the power of the Swifties, Megan has a proven track record of teaching her clients how to surf culture & look cool doing it.
